Phonies HATE This Soup : Turkish Truth Soup That Will Absolutely Change Your Life

This soup is a recipe from a friend Gabe, his mom used to make this soup for him as a child in order to get him to tell the truth. This soup when made and eaten correctly compels people to divulge a spicy secret. My friend Gabe shared this soup with 4-10 friends of ours. Not many of us that attended had experienced sharing a turkish inspired intuition based soup before, but we all enjoyed the soup thoroughly and I even went as far as to ask him to share the recipe with me. It had a spice to it, if you want it too, and when made with a chicken stock from scratch is extremely nourishing. Yum! The additive of the sausage is great as well. As far as tomatoes you can add pretty much whatever kind you've got on hand, I added a can of tomatoes and also cut up a small fresh roma tomato I had, it worked out just fine. Here is a run down of the ingredients and recipe. Enjoy.

  • 3 tablespoons olive oil, plus more for drizzling

  • 1 large yellow onion, chopped

  • 5 garlic cloves, minced

  • 8 oz canned tomatoes

  • 2 teaspoon ground cumin

  • Salt to taste

  • Black pepper, whatever feels right

  • Chili powder and smoked paprika to taste

  • 3 cups red lentils

  • Around 3 quarts chicken broth (gotta make your own)

  • 2 large carrot, peeled and diced

  • 4 hot raw italian sausages

  • Juice of 1 lemon, more to taste

  • Garnish with fresh cilantro

Saute onion and garlic in the pot with the olive oil, add the spices to briefly sauté to activate them. Add the canned tomatoes and make sure everything is getting to know each other in the pot, make sure everyone is comfortable. Add the chicken broth, lentils and the carrot and bring to a simmer, wait half an hour. Using an immersion blender, blend until you are satisfied. Take the casings off of the sausage and fry the meat in a separate pan. Then add the meat in. Add lemon juice and taste for spices. Garnish with Cilantro and olive oil. Dip with bread. Eat it with 4-10 friends.
